I love books that have little surprises inside! This beautiful inner cover belongs to my current read #KingdomoftheBlind by Louise Penny. It completely sets the scene of the book’s cold and snowy Canadian winter setting. I enjoy reading books appropriate for the season because it makes me feel more connected with the plot, and this inside cover really sets the mood 🥶🥶🥶❄️❄️❄️ . . . . . . . . #bookreview #bookblog #bookstagram #crimefiction #thriller #winterreading #igbooks #booklover #bookish #bookworm #bookphotography #bookshelf
⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️.5/5 Tommy Orange weaves the stories of twelve characters that all connect at one event that will change all of their lives: the Oakland Powwow. This book is a manifesto of sorts. It details the diverse ways in which sustained trauma from generations of abuses at the hands of the government and people have manifested in current poverty, drug abuse and addiction, mental health disorders, depression and suicide, violence and have subsequently become ingrained in Native American life today. At the same time, this book details the many triumphs against impossible circumstances, and the love shared by an unbreakable bond that many Natives share. - This is a book about love, loss, strength, identity, despair, and recovery. It is a slow build that culminates in an emotional and tragic ending. - This book has never been more relevant than now, it seems. The day after a large group of white American teenagers mocked and harassed Native American elders as they participated in the first annual Indigenous Peoples March in D.C. This was a march to bring awareness to issues facing the Native community from police violence to mental illness to missing and murdered Indigenous women. I am heartbroken and angry but I am not shocked. Orange’s book has taught me at least that much. - If you were shocked by yesterday’s events, are unaware of the problems the Native communities face daily, or didn’t know these events transpired yesterday, listen to me when I say that you need this book. Let it open your eyes, and then act. . . . . . . #therethere #tommyorange #indigenous #nativeamerican #indigenouspeoplesmarch #missingandmurderedindigenouswomen #bookreview #bookblog #bookstagram #igbooks #instagrambooks #bookblogger #fiction #booklover #bookworm #booknerd #bookish #bookshelf #bookclub #botm #bookofthemonth #wordpress #wordpressblogger
